Gov Fintiri Hails Yohanna, Court Verdict

The governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has praised the Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss Elisha Abbo and name Amos Yohanna as the senator to represent Adamawa North in the National Assembly.

This was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou while responding to the decision of the court to sack Abbo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

An Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, earlier yesterday had sacked Abbo. A three-judge panel of the appellate court presided over by Justice C.E. Nwosu-Iheme, unanimously overturned the tribunal’s earlier ruling declaring Abbo of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the legitimate winner of the senatorial seat.

The court also ordered the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a Certificate of Return to Yohanna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected lawmaker representing Adamawa North in the National Assembly.

In a statement issued in response to the court’s ruling, Fintiri claimed that the verdict represented the ultimate vindication of the will of the people of Adamawa North as expressed at the voting booths.

The governor congratulated Yohanna on his triumph and stated that “the judgment of the Court has further restored the confidence Nigerians repose in the institution of the judiciary and the hope for the sustenance of democracy in our country”.

He praised the court for standing up for justice with courage and reaffirmed the adage “the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.”
