Headies Award 2022; See Winners full list
The 15th Headies Awards took place on Sunday night, September 4, with various African artistes emerging winners in different categories.
The Headies award 2022 held in Atlanta, United States was hosted by American actor and comedian Anthony Anderson and Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro.
Wizkid, Tems, Waje, Adekunle Gold, BNXN, Oxlade, Gyakie, Olamide, Davido, and Burna Boy left the event with gold statues for their performances in the industry.
BNXN formerly known as Buju, won the Next Rated Award. This particular award is received by a promising act, with an EP or Album, in the year under review. He got nominated for the award alongside Ayra Starr, Lojay, Ruger and Zinoleesky.
Additionally, BNXN got a brand new 2022 Bentley Bentayga SUV and will become part of an important alumni network consisting of previous winners.
He dedicated his award to his late mum who died of breast cancer, Ruger, Ayra Starr, his management and his girlfriend, Peggy.
“This is for Ayra. This is for Ruger. I love this boy,” BNXN said.
BNXN also comically begged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to help him ship the Bentley to Lagos and offered to loan the car to Mr Sanwo-Olu to drive around once it lands in Nigeria.
“My governor, please o, they gave me car abeg. The money is plenty please, I can’t bring it to Lagos. If you wan drive am o, boya you go help me bring am come Lagos, abeg,” BNXN appealed to Mr Sanwo-Olu. “My governor, I’m asking, please help me bring my car to Lagos.”
Wizkid and Tems were the top winners of the night as their international collaboration “Essence” won the song of the year and best R&B single.
Apart from their two joint awards, Wizkid won album of the year for Made in Lagos (Deluxe Edition), while Tems won best female artiste and best R&B album for ‘If Orange Was a Place’.
Nigerian singers, Burna Boy, Davido won double awards.
Burna Boy won the Best Male Artiste and African Artiste of the Year award.
Davido on the other hand won The Digital award of the year and Humanitarian award of the year.
Singers Olamide and Adekunle Gold also won their own individual awards.
