LP Says Saving Nigeria has Transcended Politics

The chief spokesperson Dr. Yunusa Tanko, for the Obi-Datti campaign, claims that saving Nigeria, as represented by the Labour Party’s presidential ticket, has transcended politics.

Speaking on Channels Television Sunrise Daily on Friday, Yunusa asserted that the nation is rapidly deteriorating and that every Nigerian must act to reverse the trend.

His comment came days after the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, reassured Nigerians that there is no plan to discard the use of BVAS and the electronic transmission of results.

He says, “We are talking about rescuing Nigeria, for crying out loud. Every Nigerian is unhappy with the situation we have found ourselves in; it’s not about politics this time around.  It’s gone beyond politics. It is about the rescuing of this country because we are going down as a people,” the LP campaign spokesperson said while answering a question on whether the support from Afenifere and other similar groups will translate to votes for his candidate.

Speaking further concerning the Babachir Lawal-led Northern APC group’s support of the Obi-Datti ticket based on equity, Yunusa said that even though Mr. Peter Obi has repeatedly stated that voters should choose candidates based on their competence, not their race or religion, the Labour Party still recognises that some individuals are beginning to see the light and join the party.

He criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for raising concerns about the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), contending that if there is a network for withdrawing money from any location in the nation, there should be no reason to be concerned about the network for transmitting election results from every ward in the nation.

The LP chieftain accused the APC of trying to manipulate the system, get around the rule of law, and then repress the will of the people by trying to reverse its support for the use of BVAS.

He asserted that the new Electoral Act supports the use of BVAS and that if the APC is dissatisfied, they may merely file a legal challenge.
