Mohbad’s management moves to reclaim his catalog and royalties from Marlian Music

The management of late Nigerian rapper, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad is set to institute legal steps to retrieve the artiste’s catalog and royalties from his former label, Marlian Music.

Mohbad was initially signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records but later left in 2022 to establish his imprint, “Imolerization”. It was in 2020 when he inked a deal with the Record Label, getting into the spotlight with his viral single, “Ponmo,” featuring Naira Marley and Lil Kesh. He immediately followed it up with his debut album, Light, featuring hit tracks like “Ponmo,” “Marlian Anthem,” “Sorry,” and 5 others.

However, his exit from Marlian Records in 2022 stirred up controversies, leading to strained relations with his former boss. Yet, MohBad’s resilience with his art remained unextinguished. Despite facing barriers in accessing promotions and significant collaborations, he continued making beautiful music, releasing singles and his poignant EP, Blessed.

Mohbad’s untimely departure left a void, as his immense talent was, unfortunately never fully harnessed.

In a statement released through the micro-blogging platform Twitter, his management acknowledged the concerns expressed by fans and supporters as regards the musician’s works.

It was also disclosed that before his passing, Mohbad had dragged Marlian Music to court to seek the release of his music rights, catalog and unpaid royalties, a legal battle his team intends to pursue to its logical conclusion.

The statement reads; 

“We appreciate the outpouring of love from the General Public following the passing of Mohbad.

The circumstances surrounding his death are truly painful and we are open to provide any cooperation necessary to the authorities to carry out any investigations.

Right now, we are focused on making sure the legacy of Mohbad lives on and he is remembered as he was in his final months; Free, Strong and fighting for his future.

Before his passing Mohbad was in court to retrieve the majority of his songs and unpaid royalties which were wrongfully held by Marlian Music.

We will continue the fight to retrieve his catalog and unpaid royalties so that through these, those he left behind, especially his son; Liam !mole, will be provided for.
