Spain win Women’s World Cup in triumph over England

Spain’s Women National team are world champions for the first time in their history, following a deserved 1-0 victory over England in Sunday’s Women’s World Cup final in Sydney, Australia.Β 

A low strike by Spain’s captain Olga Carmona in the first half was the difference between both sides.

England gave it a good fight, with their goalkeeper, Mary Earps, saving Jenni Hermoso’s penalty in the second half to prevent Spain from doubling the lead.Β 

The Lionesses will go home with their heads held high, following an inspiring run in the tournament which saw them play a women’s World Cup final for the first time.
