UCL: Ronaldo grabs vital stoppage-time winner for Manchester United
Portuguese powerhouse, Cristiano Ronaldo, snatched an injury-time winner as Manchester United came from behind to beat Villarreal’s intense Champions League Group F encounter, on the night he made a record appearance of 178 UEFA Champions League games.
The game, a repeat of last season’s Europa League final, which the Spanish side won on penalties, looked to be heading for a draw after another disappointing United performance but Ronaldo, who seems to be on a second missionary journey at United, hit home from Jesse Lingard’s pass to the delight of the packed Old Trafford crowd.
After the goalless first half, Arnaut Danjuma gave the visitors the lead, Alex Telles’ eventually equalized for the Red Devil’s with a stunning strike, just befitting for his first United goal.
The victory means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side pick up their first win of the UEFA Champions League group’s stage after losing their opening game to Young boys, who went on to lose 1-0 to Atalanta, who are now top of the table.
