Uphold Party Interest- Atiku

The Former Vice President and 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has called on leaders of the party to join hands in upholding the interest of the party and Nigeria at large.

Abubakar commented in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, in Abuja on Thursday while reacting to the current frictions being witnessed in the party.

According to him, Nigerians yearns for a change that the party needs to attend to, so it does not need to divide at such a moment. He stressed that being the main opposition, fighting itself will strengthen the ruling party to destroy them.

Abubakar called on the party’s faithful to comprehend that the price of having a fragmented party was too high to pay, “but above all, a betrayal to the memories of the founding fathers of the party”.

He debunked the rumours that he was behind the crisis rocking the party.

Abubakar said; lately, he was involved in the reconciliation efforts within the party across the country and had backed reconciliation processes intended to disseminate the party’s tensions.

He added that all swords should be sheath and chance given for reconciliation. He said the party’s interest supersedes that of any individual and is optimistic that the party would overcome its current problems.

“The PDP is more significant than our ambitions. We have to consolidate the party first before we talk about our aspirations.

“We have to be careful not to play into the hands of the ruling party.
“We can’t afford a one-party system in Nigeria that denies our people a viable alternative for true change in 2023,” Abubakar said.

The former PDP presidential candidate added that those who want the country to continue with the current situation would also be eager to fuel the crisis in the PDP for their political advantage.
