“You were not re-elected, you selected yourself” — Rapper Falz blasts Sanwo-Olu over his appreciation post to Lagosians

Popular Singer and renowned activist, Folarin Falana a.k.a Falz is not subscribing to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s re-election, and he is definitely not hiding it.

Sanwo-Olu was declared winner of the March 18 exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after he won 19 local government areas with 762,134 votes to defeat his closest challenger Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who won one local government area with 312,329 votes.

Following the declaration, he took to Twitter to appreciate the good people of Lagos state for re-electing him into an office and reemphasized his commitment to serve them.

He wrote,

“Thank you Lagosians!

I am deeply humbled and grateful for the overwhelming support and trust of the good people of Lagos State. I am honored to be re-elected as your Governor and pledge to continue to work tirelessly to deliver a better Lagos for all.

Thank you for believing in me.

I have personally penned my thoughts in a letter to you. I hope you read it and truly feel my passion for Lagos and for you

These elections have deeply tested us as a people. This victory is not just mine, but it belongs to every Lagosian.”

The tweet didn’t sit well with many, including rapper Falz, due to the violence, victimisation and tribalism that unfolded during the election last Saturday.

Reacting to Sanwo-Olu’s tweet, Falz clearly stated,

“You were not re-elected. You selected yourself. Everybody saw it unfold. You are only deceiving yourselves.”

Falz’s response triggered a trade of words with supporters of the Governor-elect, and he wasn’t quick to fall back.
