Few weeks after Teyana Taylor called out the Grammys for snubbing her at the 2020 Grammys nomination, the singer has taken to her social media pages to state that she is retiring from music as she is underappreciated. According to Teyana, addressing her Instagram live video that has caused lots of misunderstanding, she said:
“The majority of what that post was to warn my label who I’ve been signed to for almost 10 years. Everything that you guys see of me, everything that I put out, everything that I do is 100% me,” Taylor said in the clip. “There’s no gun to anybody’s head to do anything that they don’t want to do. So yes, I am going to feel under-appreciated if I’m putting in 110% and my label is giving me — they’re reciprocating, what, 10% of that.”
“The crazy part about it is I asked Def Jam to drop me on almost 10 different occasions, straight to their face, up in the building, at the table. Like, ‘Yo, just drop me, because, at this point, I can’t let this kill me.” she said.
The mother of two also confirmed that she really plans to retire from music, base on the ongoing frustration she is facing with her record label G.O.O.D Music/Def Jam.
Teyana also addressed the part of her fans suggesting she is a quitter, as she should continue making music cause of her fans. she cleared the air that she is leveling up from where she is present, as whatever she is doing, is for her mental health. She said:
“I can see maybe how my message can come across, but at the same time, I feel like it’s a tiny bit selfish to say, “What about your fans? Do it for your fans,” Taylor said. “Baby, I gotta do it for my mental I don’t want to do this anymore”
