England makes history with first Euros U21 title in almost four decades

England’s Under-21 team are champions of the Euro U21 championship for the first time in almost 40 years, following a 1-0 win over Spain in a dramatic finale.

The only goal of the game just at the nick of half time, courtesy of Curtis Jones.

Spain had an injury-time opportunity to equalize and take the game into extra time, but James Trafford rose to the occasion and saved Abel Ruiz’s penalty as well as a follow-up strike from another Spanish youngster to see to it that the Young Lions got their hands on the trophy.

Lee Carsely’s boys are the third England side to win the tournament, and the first to do so with a record of six consecutive clean sheets in the competition’s history.
