EPL: West Ham hands Liverpool the first defeat of the season
West Ham United ended Liverpool’s 25 unbeaten runs, with a hard-fought win in Sunday’s tense encounter to move to third on the league table, while Liverpool dropped to fourth.
Liverpool had gone into this game looking to set a new club record of 26 unbeaten games run, as well as get a win that would move them up to second and within a point of leaders, Chelsea.
However, they fell behind early on when their goalkeeper, Alisson, conceded their own goal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold leveled things for the visitors just before the break with a stunning free-kick.
West Ham regained the lead after the breakthrough, Fornals before Kurt Zouma headed in a corner minutes later to increase the deficit.
Divock Origi swept in a second on the turn to give Liverpool hope of rescuing a point, but the Hammers West Ham remained resolute to take the very well deserved three points.
