“If you want to stay relevant in the music industry, be like Wizkid” – Shallipopi

Afropluto singer, Shallipopi has given the secret to maintaining relevance in the Nigerian music industry.

In a recent interview with 78 Factory, the fast-rising artist, Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, stressed the power of silence for sustained relevance in the music industry.

Drawing inspiration from one of Nigeria’s most iconic singers, Wizkid, Shallipopi emphasized that remaining relevant in the music industry is not just about the beats and melodies but also the art of maintaining a certain level of silence.

According to the singer, artists who talk excessively tend to lose their value, but silence lets the music and success do the talking.

He said: “To stay relevant, you stay silent. When you talk too much, you lose value. Let your music and your success speak for you like Wizkid.”

Shallipopi also took the opportunity to clarify his musical genre. While some might mistakenly categorize his music as afrobeat, he is keen to distinguish it as “afro-pluto.”

Recall that fellow artist Sypro, had publicly criticized his musical style during a recent podcast appearance.

Shallipopi in response acknowledged that not everyone is a fan of his music and that he does not let such criticism affect him.

Meanwhile, in related news, Nigerian comedian, singer, and actor, Basketmouth has expressed worry over the hike in the prices of shooting music videos in the country.

The veteran comic act lamented over how the industry standard fee has risen from 7 – 7.5 million Naira to about 27 – 30 million Naira now.

He said; “The visual we have for my song ‘Party’ with Peruzzi is not an official video. It’s just like a holdup because I did not know that the economy has hit us that bad. 2 years ago, I used to make videos for 7 – 7.5 million Naira. Now, it is 27 – 30 million Naira.

“I’m an Igbo man so the first thing I thought about was, ‘Okay Bright, if you’re spending N25m on visuals, it’s for uptick, right? Then do a holdup video, do something for uptick as well.’”
