Jada Pinkett Smith ‘Wishes’ Will Smith Didn’t Slap Chris Rock, says he overreacted

Just as Twitter users predicted, Jada Pinkett Smith has left Will Smith to carry his cross alone, despite being the reason for his predicament.

During the 94th annual Academy Awards, Rock, 57, made a joke about Jada’s bald head. After Pinkett Smith, 50, rolled her eyes at the comment, her husband, 53, approached the stage and slapped the comedian.

Then he returned to his seat and screamed, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth”.

A source close to the couple claims that although Jada is not “angry” with Will, she “wishes he didn’t” get physical with Chris.

The source explained that the altercation “was in the heat of the moment” and the couple are thought to be “in agreement that he overreacted”, according to US Weekly.

They also alleged that Pinkett Smith is ‘not a wallflower’, nor ‘one of these women that needs protecting’.

‘He didn’t need to do what he did,’ they added.

The US Weekly source also said that that the couple ‘are very much protected in their own lives and do the absolute best they can to protect their loved ones’.

Will Smith has since issued a statement apologising for his actions and has also resigned from the Academy.

In reaction to the recent development, Twitter users dragged Jada for being the cause of Will’s constant humuiliation on national TV. They think she shouldn’t have made those statements or none the least, stated that her husband overreacted because she was the reason it all happened.

Netizens think Jada should have taken either of the following approaches: Say nothing or simply have her husband’s back and apologize for his actions.

Initially, when the incident happened, a Twitter user @Letter_to_jack predicted this, “Jada that will come out tomorrow and say Will went too far, that she didn’t send him to slap Chris”.

And just like he predicted, it happened. Meanwhile reacting to this, @Yom said, “You can never please a woman that doesn’t really love you”.

“Will Smith is the biggest simp in the world. Jada keeps humiliating him day by day. Man is finished”, @Headking tweeted.

However, Speaking on The View yesterday, Whoopi Goldberg who is the first African American to have received Academy Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress said that “Some of Will Smith’s future projects are in question. The question is does he have a path back – yes of course he does. He’ll be back, no worries.”

In the aftermath of the slap, Goldberg insisted that Smith won’t have his Oscar taken away from him after he broke the Academy’s code of conduct.

She had gone on to defend Will’s actions, reasoning: ‘sometimes you behave badly’. I think it was a lot of stuff probably built up. I think he overreacted… I think he had one of those moments where it was like [God damn] it, just stop.

‘I get it, not everybody acts the way we would like them to act under pressure. And he snapped…

‘Sometimes you get to a point when you behave badly. I myself have behaved badly on occasion.’
