UCL: Manchester City left it late against resilient Atletico

A late lone goal was all Manchester City needed to breathe after squaring up against Atletico Madrid’s staunch resistance at the Etihad in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-finals showdown.

After a rather frustrating first half, it seemed like Pep’s men would have been forced to settle for a goalless draw after all efforts to get past Diego Simeone’s fierce defensive setup had bounced, but an equally resilient Manchester City got their reward in the 70th minute thanks to Kevin de Bruyne’s goal, courtesy of substitute, Phil Foden’s brilliance.

The win maybe be a slim one, but the Citizens will be hoping to build on it when they travel to Madrid for the return leg next week.
