Serie A: Inter, Atalanta Set For Final Day Showdown

The Italian Serie A might already have its Champions for the 2019/2020 campaign, but with two games left till the end of the season, teams still have some fighting to do.

Intermilan one of those teams racing for a second place finish behind league champions, Juventus, took their fight a step above fellow second place contenders, Atalanta after a 2-0 win over Napoli in their match day 37 fixture, yesterday.

Inter, who took some revenge for their Coppa Italia semi-final defeat by Gennaro Gattuso’s side, clad in their new kit for next season which bears zig-zagged black and blue stripes instead of the traditional straight ones, went ahead after 11 minutes when Danilo D’Ambrosio turned the ball home via a Cristiano Biraghi’s cut back.

Napoli had lots of chances to get back in the game, but it was Intermilan who struck again in the 74th when sub Lautaro Martinez collected the ball in midfield, spun away from his marker, raced towards goal and sent a  25-metre shot past right into the net at the visitors end of the pitch.

In the second game of the night, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, Atalanta who have been sensational this season, pulled a late comeback against Parma through goals from Ruslan Malinovskiy and Papu Gomez which put them in third place, a point behind second placed Inter, ensuring the race for second place gets to the last day.

Atalanta with 97 goals in the serie A and looking to make it 100 looked just as tired and spent as Inter Milan, their next opponents did most part of their game, but both teams have shown spirit all season long and the clash on Saturday it promises to be an intriguing clash to see who comes out as the best team behind Juventus in the 2019-20 Serie A.

But do you think they (Inter Milan) did their best in this season?
