UCL: Liverpool survives Villarreal scare to book final spot

Liverpool came from behind to survive a huge scare against Villarreal and go through to the Champions League final.

The Reds headed into the game at Spain with a comfortable 2-0 victory in the first leg but that advantage was erased after 41 minutes as goals from Boulaye Dia and Francis Coquelin brought the to a levelled 2-2 aggregate. 

Villarreal looked set for an upset, but Liverpool roared back to life after the break as goals from Fabinho, Luis Diaz and  Sadio Mane saw off Villarreal and handed Jurgen Klopp’s side their third Champions League final in five seasons.

Despite the elimination, Villarreal can be proud of how they performed in the competition, while the Reds, who are chasing an unprecedented quadruple will play either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the Final at the Stade de France in Paris on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
