Iconic comeback sends Real Madrid to Champions League Final against Liverpool

Manchester City succumbed to one of the most heartbreaking Champions League defeats, as Real Madrid pulled a late, classic comeback to set up a final showdown against Liverpool.

City, without much doubt, the better side for the most part of the game were deservedly two goals ahead on aggregate thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s 73-minute strike.

And just when all looked set for City to go through to the finals, Brazilian substitute, Rodrygo grabbed two goals within one minute to level the tie on aggregate, and drag things into extra time.

95 minutes on, Benzema, made no mistakes as he slotted in a decisive penalty, leaving Pep and his players shell shocked as they watched their dreams of a second successive all English Champions League Final (with Liverpool already waiting) come crashing down, while Madrid players went into a wild celebration in what may go down as one of the greatest semi-final showpieces in Champions League history.

If there’s anything this competition has thought as, it is not to ever take Real Madrid, a record 13 times Champions League winners for granted, even at their lowest, and it is believed that Liverpool will keep that in mind when they square up against Ancelotti’s men in Paris on May 28.

A repeat of 2018 final, Klopp’s men will be looking to revenge for the 3-1 defeat they suffered, so once again, we anticipate a thrilling Champions League Final.
