Man City crash out of Carabao Cup, as Chelsea progress to next round

Manchester City has bowed out of the Carabao Cup competition, following a rather shocking 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.

The only goal of the game was scored by Alexander Isak in the second half, an unexpected twist in a game that saw Man City enjoy a dominant first half.

The result means Newcastle are through to the fourth round of the competition, where they’ll face defending Champions, Manchester United,  whom they lost to in last season’s final.

Chelsea 1 -0 Brighton

Meanwhile, in another fixture, Chelsea are through to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, thanks to a hard-fought lone-goal victory over Brighton.

The win was a much-needed one for Mauricio Pochettino’s side who have struggled to find the back of the net so far this season and have suffered a poor run of games, winning just one of their six Premier League fixtures, so far.

Nicolas Jackson’s 50th-minute goal means Chelsea will square up against Blackburn Rovers, a championship side in the next round of the Carabao Cup competition.

Arsenal and Liverpool all won their respective games and are through to the fourth round of the competition, in which they play West Ham and Bournemouth, respectively.
