Osimhen wins coveted Africa Player of Year Award

Victor Osimhen has been named the 2023 African Footballer of the Year at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards ceremony in Morocco, becoming the first Nigerian to win it since Nwankwo Kanu did in 1999.

The 24 year Napoli player beat Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi to the prestigious award, following his spectacular 2022-23 season in which he helped Napoli clinch the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years, scoring 26 goals in 32 league appearances.Β

Osimhen wasn’t the only Nigerian to take home an award, as his Super Falcons counterpart, Asisat Oshoala, took home the CAF Female Player of The Year Award for a sixth consecutive time.

But, they weren’t the only ones to make the nation proud, as Super Falcons keeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, was crowned the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2023, while the Super Falcons, the Nigerian female football team, Super Falcons, clinched the 2023 Confederation of African Football award for the National Team of the Year.
