World Cup: Saudi Arabia stun Argentina in comeback victory

Argentina, one of the favourites to win the World Cup have been dealt a shocker in their opening Group C game by a resolute Saudi Arabia side.

Lionel Messi, gave his nation an early lead in the first half, from the spot, before Argentina went on to have three goals disallowed for offside, much to their disappointment.

They maintained the lone goal lead till some eight minutes after the break, when  Saleh Al-Shehri pulled one back for the Green Falcons.

Five minutes later, Salem Al Dawsari fired home an absolute belter to give Saudi Arabia the lead and eventually, all three points.

The victory, a dream come true for the Saudis, brought an end to Argentina’s  36-game unbeaten run that included winning the 2021 Copa America.

Argentina’s next game is against Mexico on Saturday, while Saudi Arabia will square up against Poland.
