Arsenal slip against Villa as City go top

Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League are on the line after Mikel Arterta’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates.

Hopes and anticipations were high for the Gunners heading into the game, particularly because Liverpool had succumbed to a shocking 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace earlier, and victory for Arsenal would see them remain at the summit.

Arsenal, however, failed to capitalize on what can easily to termed a golden opportunity, with late goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins doing the damage, a befitting result for performance Unai Emery’s men out up.

The defeat is Arsenal’s first in 2024.

Having defeated Luton 5-1 on Saturday and with both Arsenal and Liverpool failing to bag three points, City is now in pole position for the EPL two points ahead of Arteta and Jurgen Klopp’s side, with six games left.
